Synopsis

Rosie Cox
311 Pelican Court Cedar Cove, Washington
Dear Listener,
One thing about Cedar Cove – people sure are interested in what other people are doing. Take me, for instance. Everybody in the town knows that my husband, Zach, and I recently got a divorce. Everybody also knows that Judge Olivia Lockhart decreed a pretty unusual custody arrangement. It won’t be the kids moving between my place and Zach’s. We’re the ones who’ll be going back and forth!
Olivia isn’t immune to gossip herself. Will she stay with Jack, the guy who runs our local paper, or will she get back with her ex? Inquiring minds want to know!
But the really big gossip has to do with the dead guy – the man who died at a local bed-and-breakfast. Who is he and why did he show up there in the middle of the night? Roy McAfee, our local private investigator, is absolutely determined to find out. I hope he does – and then I’ll let you know! See you soon…

My Thoughts

Debbie Macomber knows how to put together a nice relaxing read and balance numerous story lines all at the same time.  I love that I can pick up any book and know exactly what to expect.  A good consistent story that is not going to require me to really have to think about what is going on.  I can just pick it up and enjoy it.  311 Pelican Court was exactly that.  I have not read the first two books in the series but I had no trouble picking up on the numerous story lines.  The lives of those who live in Cedar Cove cross and bend together but each person has their own issues.  There are Rosie and Zach who just got divorce and the judge (Olivia, more to come about her) awarded the house to their kids and it is up to them to move in and out of it.  Their relationship changes throughout the book from horrible to something very different.  Then you have Olivia who is challenged to make a decision between her Ex-husband, Stan, and a man that keeps her on her toes, Jack.  And then there is a freaking story line that include 4 members of the town and a dead John Doe at the local B & B which could change life for four involved.  But my favorite set of characters are Maryellen and Jon.  They had a one night stand and Maryellen got pregnant and hid it from Jon making for a bad situation once he found out.  I loved trying to figure out what would happen with them.  These are the main people we are going to get to know but there are more.   I am always impressed that the story lines can all occur in one book without overwhelming the reader.

My Rating

4 stars.  This rating is due in part to the fact that this is a good book but not one that I would in all likelihood pick up and read a second time.  Great beach read – or as it has been raining her in Michigan for the last week – good rainy day book!

*I purchased this book.  All opinions are my own.
